Lee, who hails from York started playing aged 14 on cornet with the Rowntrees Junior Band for a year, then quickly progressed into the Senior Band. Three years later he realised his mouth was too big for the cornet and moved onto Euphonium, where he spent seven years before moving onto Gods instrument – The Baritone.
Lee helped the band progress from the 3rd Section to the Championship Section winning numerous competitions including the North of England Areas. In 1998 Lee won the ‘Bandsman of the Year’ trophy.
In 1999 Lee was given an offer he couldn’t refuse from the famous Yorkshire Imps to play 2nd Baritone under the fine direction of Thomas Wyss and David Evans. During the next five years with the band, Lee competed in the British Open, the Masters, Brass in Concert and the Yorkshire Areas, competing against the best bands in the world. In April 2004 Lee was offered and accepted the 2nd Baritone position with the Famous Carlton Main – the highlight to date coming 6th at the 2006 British Open.
Lee works as a Colour Reprographics Technician in York and is also an avid and fanatical supporter of Everton (someone has to be) and enjoys drinking copious amounts of ’stagger’. He also enjoys cooking and is the band’s resident baker of chocolate muffins!
Lee’s main ambition is to win the National Finals and the British Open with Carlton Main, however he has recently begun taking lessons in juggling from the world famous Rococo the Clown. He enjoys juggling all the time, and he even managed to add some in to his performance at the British Open 2008! Anyone who was there and saw this knows how talented a juggler he is!
