Robert started playing an instrument at the age of 11 with Grimethorpe Colliery Junior Band.

It was only natural for someone from Grimethorpe for him to progress to the Grimethorpe Colliery Band at 16 where he played for 31 years, mostly in the Principal Baritone chair.

He is now enjoying a slightly less committed time with Carlton Main Frickley which helps him enormously as he has quite a few business commitments.

As is obvious by Bob’s stature, he has several hobbies outside banding which include weight lifting and cat breeding.

Also he is very keen on developing his role as a film star as he was also one of the members of the “Grimley” band who took part in the film ‘’Brassed Off’’’.

During his long and illustrious banding career Bob has been involved in many, many contest’s winning every major honour that is going!

Hopefully this will continue here at Carlton Main Frickley.
